The Vape Guide
Hardware Types
510-thread carts pair with any standard 510 battery. The carts are interchangeable across strains and brands, batteries are reusable, and the format is the most versatile. All-in-one disposables include the cart and battery in a single sealed unit, easier entry, no battery purchase required, but disposable. Pod systems use proprietary refillable pods from specific brands, clean experience, more limited compatibility.
Oil Types Explained
Distillate is a refined, isolated cannabinoid (typically THC) at 80 to 95% purity. Almost flavorless and odorless; manufacturers often re-blend terpenes back in for vape carts.
Live resin is solvent-extracted from fresh-frozen flower, preserving full terpene profile, typically 70 to 85% THC. Live rosin is solventless, extracted with heat and pressure, premium tier, typically 60 to 80% THC with the highest terpene complexity.
Distillate Versus Live Resin Versus Live Rosin
Distillate hits cleaner but flatter, predictable potency without flavor depth. Live resin balances cost with terpene preservation, better flavor than distillate at modest premium. Live rosin delivers the closest-to-flower experience at the highest price point. Choose based on whether you prioritize potency-per-dollar (distillate), balanced flavor and cost (live resin), or flavor-first connoisseur experience (live rosin).
Strain Selection For Vapes
Same strain logic as flower applies. Indica-dominant for relaxation and sleep, sativa-dominant for energy and focus, hybrids for balance. Terpene profile shapes the experience, limonene for lift, myrcene for relaxation, pinene for clarity. Most vape carts on the New York shelf list terpene percentages on the COA.
Brands At Green Genius
Fernway, clean cartridges and disposables, daily-driver reliability. Rove, cold-cured live resin in premium hardware. Jaunty, live rosin carts at the connoisseur tier. Holiday, effect-targeted disposables. Each brand serves a different use case and price tier; the buying team picks across them for full menu coverage.
Hardware Care
Store carts upright in cool, dark conditions. Avoid heat that causes oil to thin and leak. If a cart clogs, gentle warming (hand-warm, not torch-warm) usually clears it. Replace 510 batteries when they no longer hold charge across multiple sessions. Most rechargeable batteries last 6 to 12 months of daily use.
Cost Per Hit Calculation
A typical 1g vape cart provides 200 to 400 puffs depending on draw length and temperature, which works out to 2 to 4 weeks of light-to-moderate use. Cost per puff: live rosin runs $0.20 to $0.30, live resin $0.15 to $0.20, distillate $0.10 to $0.15. The per-hit economics make vapes the most cost-efficient cannabis format for most consumers.
